From their first days of school, they try to promote in children the idea that crime does not pay, which is true because from a certain point of view it is necessary to demonstrate and teach that criminals, villains and lawbreakers law will always receive just punishment for each and every one of their misdeeds or crimes.
Unfortunately, the just punishment that criminals receive in the name of law, order and justice does not (usually) make a dent in their character or conduct; even less in the results and benefit they could have obtained with the evil they committed. And that we must also teach our children no matter how contradictory it may be.
This occurs because, from the point of view of the victim, the only way for the crime to be punished fairly is for everything that was taken from her to be repaid and also for her to receive what she considers fair compensation, the latter meaning, in the most cases; that the criminal be punished to a degree that truly causes him the same degree of pain that she suffered. That is the great deficiency and problem that exists with the type of justice that is currently applied. No, there is no punishment that the criminal can receive that can replace, soothe or heal the pain of a mother who has lost a son, that of a man who has lost his wife and that of a son who has lost a father; because not even causing the same loss to the perpetrator can full compensation be achieved.
Perhaps because of this, the absolute inability to give complete satisfaction and healing to the victim, that the public function of the judicial powers where it is about giving compensation to the victim is called the "Public Vendetta" what a bad translation it refers to. to the revenge of the people, but not of the victim, who only hopes that the punishment imposed on the perpetrator is sufficient to dissuade others from similar actions.
From another point of view, it is also necessary to understand that the criminal will never lose as much as what was taken from the victim; especially from their point of view and that is what we will review below. With horror you can see on the news that a prosecutor, in a Latin American country, has decided to pardon a corrupt man, a thief of the people's money, because he has agreed to present his testimony and evidence of the crimes of other corrupt worse ilk and that they have appropriated greater amounts of resources and money in exchange for their loot not being taken from them and the sentence that could correspond to them being reduced or even annulled. With the excuse of catching "a big fish"; with the skill of a table magician, the victim is deceived to benefit the criminal. With the people's money they are rewarding him for a triple crime; for having robbed the people, betraying his friends (because at some point they were and if they were not friends they were accomplices, complicity and friendship are the points where the crime approaches something good) and the betrayal of everyone who They gave their trust.
So; Did that criminal get the punishment he deserves? The answer is a definit no. Rather he received what he expected to receive: money and little or no jail time. In conclusion, crime does pay and it pays very well.
In the case of the individual, man or woman, who premeditates a homicide, by killing his victim, he has achieved his objective. They will never take the life of that criminal (with some exceptions for the country where the crime occurs) nor will they ever take away a loved one. So he received what he expected; so many years in prison; as he also got what he wanted, the consequences of his crime; the death of his victim. If he received what he wanted and hoped for, it means that he was victorious in his mission.
All of the above is not to be disappointed or even feel the need to apply the law of Retaliation or the code of Hammurabi. Nor that current laws are bad, insufficient or incapable of fulfilling their function. This is something else that has nothing to do with satisfying the vengeance of the victim or the group, his function is something else that at the moment is not the subject of these comments.
If it is clear that the laws and the actions of the agents of justice must be subject to analysis and changes that arrive to make them change and balance the balance of compensation between victim and perpetrator; from a certain point of view, from a moral and emotional point of view, they have to be reviewed, not only to punish but to give the victim a conclusion and satisfaction to his pain in order to be able to finally affirm with certainty that crime does not pay.
